Macroecology of the Anthropocene

To what degree do humans determine the distribution and diversity of species?

The overall aim of our research is to advance the understanding of causal processes determining biodiversity patterns and change in the Anthropocene and inform conservation decisions to mitigate the biodiversity crisis. More specifically, our research seeks to quantify the effect of humans relative to natural drivers on “what grows where”, solve the challenge of attributing biotic change to individual drivers, particularly land use and climate change, and apply new knowledge to evidence-based conservation. Our methods combine historical resurveys in the field with modeling, global biodiversity databases, remote sensing and image recognition of ground-based imagery.
